Summer’s New Looks and Teas

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Earlier this summer we were asked to provide a conference venue.  The Garden Gate livingroom extension proved to be more versatile than we thought as you can see here.  We had enough power, space and the group was impressed with the setup. Then we had a wedding reception here for close to 30 guests.  It was absolutely lovely.

This past week we had a relatively local chapter of the Red Hat Society visit The Garden Gate. They are such a pleasure to serve!  Looking at their red hats and purple attire, these ladies sure know how to have fun.

Our tea sales have been brisk and I want to introduce a few new teas that have been imported from California.  We have a new white tea called Summer Rain, a rooibos that satifies the chocolate banana lover in all of us, a green tea where each two top leaves together with the bud have been hand-rolled into small pearls which throw your senses into a virtual jasmine garden in your imagination once the water begins to unfurl the pearls in your teapot.  Finally, we have my favourite – Mandarine Silk Oolong tea that hits your olfactory senses with a comparable scent of a melting Werthers butterscotch candy.  The smoothness of this golden cup is nothing but exotic and addictive!

All our teas at The Garden Gate are available both during your visit here for a tea, or for sale by the ounce.  Please stop by and taste the difference that a luxury loose tea can make in your day.  We are open by reservation and take tea orders by phone for pickup or delivery by Canada Post.

Where did summer go?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

September is here and  now we finally have  July.  Go figure.  The petunias in my hanging baskets know fall is here and are appropriately fading into nothingness, but my nasturtiums haven’t been told yet, and for that I am thankful because  they are providing a shot of needed colour where the drought has made room for them to show off their yellows, rich reds and orange hues.

We have had an eventful August and beginning of September here at the Garden Gate Tearoom.  In August, we have had tea guests from all over Ontario visit us.  We also were blessed to serve our popular Victorian Royal Tea for 36 guests for a private birthday party.  Since our comfort zone is 20-30 it was tight but everyone loved it and we had lots of fun!  This past week we were honoured to host September’s Brock Networking Breakfast Meeting where we served a sampling of the B&B’s breakfast items and a delectable egg bake I pulled out of a Rise and Dine cookbook.

As we are always moving things around here and there, we have developed our retail corner into a more interactive space and have now included a Preserves Corner where all our home-made jams will be readily available for purchase right off the shelf.  Tea sales are slowly picking up as more of our local residents and  not-so-local tea guests are made aware of our huge selection of bugsy1fine quality loose teas and herbal tisanes, including two great tonic tisanes made locally by Faunus Herbs just a few concessions away.  We are also now set up to ship small quantities of our guests’ favourite tea to anywhere in Canada via Canada Post.  There’s never a dull moment around here – perhaps that’s why I get tired some days…;0)

We look forward to seeing you here soon at the Garden Gate, and perhaps our little cottontail rabbit friend will still be around to greet you when you arrive!

Welcome to the new tearoom!

I can’t believe I am going to become a blogger! I guess it is possible to “teach an old dog new tricks!” It’s exciting to offer you, our tea friends and enthusiasts – past, present and future, an avenue for keeping you in the loop about the latest tea trends, events, as well as retail offerings here at the Garden Gate including our luxury loose leaf teas and fanciful necessiteas… like imported tea-infused chocolates and truffles – yummy!!!

We invite you to post a comment here about anything tea, be it your experience with us during your visit you wish to share with others, or a comment about a tea you either recommend (or not), etc….We want to make the Garden Gate a true destination venue in Brock Township, North Durham and we want you to feel relaxed, pampered and valued whether you are here for one of our tea luncheons, or just stopping in to buy tea to enjoy at home.
