Cardin Alvar Plain Important Bird Area – The Carden Plain is a popular destination for flora and fauna enthusiats alike.  There are several endangered species of birds that only inhabit this rare geological environment so bring your binoculars.  They also have a spectacular festival in June with lots of educational field tours both on land and by canoe. 

There is lots to enjoy in the  area including:

High Tea at our very own Garden Gate Tearoom .  Reservations required.

The Beaverton and District Chamber of Commerce has listings for most businesses in the area for reducing our carbon footprint by doing business locally.

 Just 10 minutes away from our doorstep on Durham Road 23, is one of York Region’s Forest trails  (Trail No. 50) that is great for either a fall hike or cross-courty skiing.  Plese note that this trail is not a loop so when you get “almost tired”, turn around and come back the way you came otherwise you will end up a lot further away than you wished to be….;0). It would be a good idea to print of a copy of the detailed map of the trails for this tract. 

There is antique shopping nearby in Beaverton, Pefferlaw, Sunderland and Sutton.

The famous Trent Severn waterway  has two lift locks nearby  including the famous Kirkfield Lift Lock.

3 golf courses are less than 3 kilometres from the B & B: Cedarhurst Golf Club, Simcoe Shores Golf Club  and The Pines of Gergina.  If you stay with us, you can take advantage of the special golf discounts we receive for our overnight guests. 

 Lake Simcoe is only 7 kms away and is a popular lake for fishing all year round, boating and swimming.  It is also the ice-fishing capital of the world, and can turn into quite a little town of huts out there on the ice.  There are ice-hut rentals available in Beaverton.

 In winter there are snowmobile trails that surround Beaverton that you can enjoy.  The Beaverton winter carnival, the Cannington Dog sled races and the Sunderland Maple Syrup festival are 3 events that should not be missed. 

 Casino Rama is only 1/2 hour north of us and a nice drive to see one of many international stars that are showcased there from time to time.
