Our first home together was a basement apartment backing onto the collector lanes of the 401, then we moved up in the world to a third floor apartment by the Metro Zoo that came with balcony killer squirrels (they killed all my plants!), then finally to our first house in north Keswick which we renovated and where I had my first real gardens.   We really liked our house and our neighbours  but the house did not fit into our long-term dream of running a B&B and tearoom.  So, we began searching again for the perfect spot (that we could afford) and “long story shortened severely” – here we are.  If you visit us, feel free to ask to see our reno pics of this place – it was a nightmare, but we (or should we say, Sylvia) saw the wonderful potential of the place.  We received the keys on June 5, 2005, and opened our doors as The Haven Bed and Breakfast on January 5th, 2006.  Our first charity High Tea was served in December 2006 which was very successful.  After doing some market research regarding whether a tearoom would be desired in the area, we took the next steps through the necessary channels and after a few more minor renovations, we officially opened the Garden Gate Tearoom this spring.

It is our pleasure to serve others, whether it is for a cup of tea with scones or an overnight stay.    We sincerely trust  that whoever steps into our home will find it  a welcoming and calming respite from the fast-paced world that surrounds us all.  The definition of  haven is “a  place of refuge or rest; a sanctuary.  We endeavour to be that.  There is a peacefulness that a lot of folks sense here no matter what for what reason or in what season they come.  We thought perhaps it would be a good idea to try to explain where this peace really comes from.  We believe it comes from God.  He is The Haven of our hearts.
